The Secret Life of a Coffee Bean
Share
Ever wonder what kind of wild adventure your morning cup of Jimmy’s Java has been on before it hits your lips? Spoiler alert: it’s been around the world, through fire (literally), and into the skilled hands of our roasters before winding up in that bottle of cold brew you’re sipping on.
Let’s break it down. Here’s the secret life of a coffee bean — Jimmy’s style.
Step 1: Born in the Mountains
It all starts high up in the mountains of places like Colombia, Guatemala, and Ethiopia — where the climate, altitude, and soil work together to create rich, flavorful beans. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill grocery store beans. We’re talking shade-grown, hand-picked, and grown with love by farmers who know coffee better than we know our own email passwords.
Step 2: Picked, Processed, and Prepped
Coffee beans aren’t actually beans — they’re the seeds of a fruit called a coffee cherry. Once they’re ripe, they’re picked and processed (washed or naturally dried, depending on the region and style), then hulled, sorted, and packed up for the next leg of the journey.
Think of this step like prepping your suitcase for a long trip — only these little guys are headed straight for Florida.
Step 3: Roasted with Love in Southwest Florida
This is where the magic happens. Once the beans reach Jimmy’s, our roasting crew takes over — and no, it’s not just pressing a button on a big machine. Roasting is both an art and a science. We roast small batches to perfection, bringing out unique flavor notes like chocolate, caramel, berries, or spice.
It’s a little like toasting marshmallows — too short and you miss the flavor, too long and you burn the whole thing. We hit the sweet spot every time.
