The origination of Indian Monsoon Malabar coffee dates back to the era when wooden ships loaded with raw coffee beans would take up to 6 months to travel from India to Europe, sailing around the Cape of Good Hope. During the months that the coffee beans were transported at sea, the humidity and ocean winds combined to cause the coffee to change from its fresh green color to a more aged, pale yellow hue. Upon their arrival in Europe, the coffee beans were found to have a unique mellowness, soft and smooth tasting throughout the cup, so that the coffee became an instant hit with Europeans, paving the way for the birth of a new coffee type. Today these conditions are replicated in warehouses during the Indian monsoon season so that the coffee beans, exposed to constant humid conditions, undergo the same characteristic changes in size, texture, appearance and in the cup.

Fabulous

As I wrote 3 years ago "Monsooned Malabar was a pleasant experience". After a month of drinking Sumatra or Kenya AA, Moonsooded Malabar is a pleasing change of pace. From the bold and dynamic to the mellow and delicate makes for a wonderful change. We can't say Moonsooded Malabar is a favorite because there are so many coffees we love from Jimmy Jova. Coffee quality, roasting excellence, and superb customer service explain why we have been ordering coffee from Jimmy Javo for close to four years. 5 star

Medium Coffee

I mostly like dark coffees but decided to try a variety before I commit to a larger bag. I didn’t really care for the Monsoon Malabar roast. To me it didn’t have a lot of flavor. It was more of a light coffee. I feel like I should have put double the scoops in it just to bring out the flavor. I definitely won’t be ordering any mediums anymore. Full flavored for this Midwestern gal.

The flavor is not for me

I love Jimmy's Java coffee (Sanibel Sunrise) but Monsoon Malabar is not for me. To me, it has a rather strange, unappealing flavor. I started by using the same amount of beans I use when making Sanibel Sunrise. The result was weak, strange tasting coffee. I increased the amount of beans significantly but it didn't seem to change the flavor that much. After 3 days I gave up. That being said, I'm a big Jimmy's Java fan and I say keep up the great work! But I won't be buying this blend again.

Service was great, product not so much

I can’t say anything but praise for your service and website.
Unfortunately the Monsoon Malabar was only average at best. No matter how I ground it or quantity added it continued to produce a mediocre coffee which was not what I’ve experienced in other shipments of it. I wonder if it was the age of the bean or to light a roast, not sure. Beans can change from lot to lot so I understand. I’ll keep it and mix it with something to use it up.
